Der Umbau des Heilig-Geist Hospitals von Alkmaar zur Waage (1582)

Abstract

Erste eingehende bauhistorische Analyse der einzelnen Bauphasen der sogenannten Waage von Alkmaar mit dem ursprünglichen Heilig-Geist-Hospital, dem Anbau eines Pfründehauses, dem Umbau zu einer ‚Waage’ genannten Handelshalle. Der Text weist die Auffassung des ursprünglichen Bestandes als Kapelle als typische Fehlinterpretation von mittelalterlichen Hospitälern nach. Ferner wird aufgezeigt, dass es sich bei dem Umbau zu einer sogenannten Waage um eine multifunktionale Handelshalle handelt.

First analysis in architectural history of the of the individual building phases of the socalled Weigh House of Alkmaar, including the original Holy Spirit Hospital, the extension of an almshouse and the conversion into a trade hall called 'Weighing House'. The text shows that the conception of the original building as a chapel is a typical misinterpretation of medieval hospitals. Furthermore it is shown that the conversion to a so-called Weigh House is a multifunctional trading hall.
